Our Mini Vipers program is a U8, co-ed development program open to boys and girls who are 5, 6, or 7 years old before January 1, 2024. Our Mini Vipers program is specifically designed to introduce the game of basketball to our youngest players. This learn to play basketball program is open to both boys and girls who are eager to develop their skills. Our primary goal is to teach the fundamentals of basketball in an energetic and fun environment, where all players will have an equal opportunity for success.
The program will consist of a weekly one hour session. The first half of each session will consist of skill and movement development. The second half will consist of games. The program will build a progression of skills and game play that will allow players to be ready to continue to enjoy basketball as they move into the older age groups and more formal competitive or house league settings.
Registration for the program is $225. Gym times and locations are subject to availability of facilities rented from HRCE and HRM. The program will be 16 weeks expected to run from the last week in October to the end of February with exact dates/weeks being subject to pending facilities bookings. Due to limited facilities in our area, registration is capped at 40 players.
Registration typically opens mid-August and closes the second week in September. When open, registration can be completed through our Registration tab. Once registration is open, please do not delay. We are limited in the number of players we can take because Halifax does not have enough gyms to accommodate the demand for gym time. We fill up fast and cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all people who end up on the waitlist.
NOTE - 7 YEAR OLDS HAVE THE OPTION TO REGISTER FOR U10
Some 7 year olds may feel that they are ready for a more competitive team environment. The U10 age group is the first age level that consists of formal teams that play in a league called the Metro Basketball Association. The U10s typically practice one to two times per week and have a game every Saturday. U10 teams are created by the players going through our player assessment process where they, along with a large group of their peers, are assessed for skill, basketball IQ, coachability, and general athleticism. There are two assessment sessions. After the assessments, players are placed on a team with others having similar abilities.
7 year olds can register for U10 and attend the first player assessment. If, after the first assessment, they feel that they are not yet ready for U10, you can contact our technical director at email@example.com to arrange for your player to be moved to Mini Vipers with a partial refund (U10 is $390 and Mini Vipers is only $225). If a 7 year old attends the second player assessment, he or she must stay in the U10 division. There are no refunds after a player attends the second player assessment. A player must select either U10 or Mini Vipers. Registration in both is not permitted.
Our experienced and certified coaches will incorporate fitness, hand-eye coordination, and the Vipers spirit into every lesson. We believe that a strong foundation in these areas is essential for any beginner basketball player. Our program is tailored to meet the needs of those who are new to the sport, and we are committed to providing a supportive and encouraging environment for all participants.
We understand that starting a new sport can be intimidating, which is why we strive to make our program as accessible and enjoyable as possible. Our coaches are passionate about teaching kids how to play basketball and are dedicated to helping each player reach their full potential. We believe that with the right guidance and support, every player can succeed.
Our Mini Vipers program is the perfect opportunity for young boys and girls to learn to play basketball in a fun and supportive environment. We are committed to providing the highest quality coaching and instruction, and we look forward to helping your child develop their skills and love for the game.
See you on the court!
